About the role#
This Nurse Extern II position is designed for students graduating in December 2026. You will work within the 34-bed inpatient acute care unit at Aurora Medical Center West Allis, which focuses on Med/Surg and Oncology. This role serves as a transition into a Registered Nurse position, requiring one 8-hour shift per week during the day.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign checks, and blood glucose monitoring under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish patient care plans based on health, education, and developmental needs.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate observations to the Registered Nurse.
- Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse after clinical judgment and skill proficiency are evaluated.
- Manage an increased patient load while incorporating time management principles into your shift.
- Participate in emergency situations under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Perform patient positioning and transport duties, which involve lifting, pushing, and pulling.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited or approved nursing program.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities.
- Ability to perform physical requirements including lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling with 30 lbs of force, and performing sliding transfers.
