About the role#
The Employee Benefits Intern will join the Benefits team at Xcel Energy to gain hands-on experience with retirement and health and welfare programs. You will work alongside experienced professionals to support retirement processing, vendor coordination, and operational data reviews. This role provides exposure to systems like Workday and SAP while ensuring accurate delivery of benefits to employees and retirees. This is a paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist with benefit administration by reviewing transactions and researching discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate participant records across multiple systems.
- Perform weekly and monthly reporting, data validation, and operational tracking.
- Partner with internal teams and external vendors on retirement, health, and deferred compensation processes.
- Assist with payroll, trust, and funding reconciliation.
- Document business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support special projects related to compliance and participant experience.
What you'll need#
- Current student at an accredited college or university, sophomore status or higher.
- Pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Management.
- Ability to work full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year.
- Experience with Excel functions, PivotTables, or data analysis tools.
- Experience working with large datasets or reports.
- Demonstrated project or process improvement experience.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established processes.
- Curiosity and critical thinking skills.
- Interest in employee benefits, retirement plans, HR operations, finance, and compliance.
