About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in community relations, economic development, and social investment. You will work alongside teams including Community Relations, Media Relations, and the Xcel Energy Foundation to help strengthen relationships with local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations throughout Wisconsin. This is a paid, full-time summer 2027 position.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate community events and support outreach efforts with nonprofits and community organizations.
- Assist with foundation and volunteer programs, including tracking employee volunteerism and supporting grant initiatives.
- Conduct research and prepare briefings on community needs, economic development opportunities, and stakeholder priorities.
- Draft communication materials and assist with media or event logistics.
- Help manage stakeholder relationships by coordinating meetings and maintaining contact lists.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current student, sophomore or higher, enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, public relations, political science, or nonprofit management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
- Genuine interest in community engagement, philanthropy, or economic development.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
- The position requires commuting to the office in-person as part of a hybrid work schedule.
- Local travel is required.
- You must be able to work full-time (up to 40 hours per week) during the summer of 2027.
- The internship start date is May 24, 2027.
