About the role#
The Finance Intern will work with the executive and finance teams to gain hands-on experience in a municipal public utility environment. You will support projects focused on financial analysis, reporting, and business planning. This role is based in Lansing, Michigan, and runs from May 17, 2027, to August 13, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Conduct benchmarking analyses to compare financial and operational performance against other municipal power and water agencies.
- Assist with cost-of-service models and rate-class competitiveness analysis.
- Perform financial analysis and prepare supporting calculations, summaries, and presentations.
- Run standard financial reports and organize financial data.
- Research and compile industry, financial, and operational information to support strategic planning.
- Coordinate internal meetings and follow up on assigned tasks.
- Support business units by gathering data and assisting with finance enhancement projects.
- Utilize SAP and standard office software to manage financial information.
- Follow safety manuals and attend required training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited institution pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
- Enrollment in classes for the fall 2027 semester.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- A cover letter must be submitted with your application.
