About the role#
The Lansing Board of Water & Light is seeking an Internal Audit Intern for the summer of 2027. This full-time position is based in Lansing, Michigan. You will work under the supervision of a mentor within the Internal Audit Department to support organizational compliance and risk management. This is a paid internship offering $23.00 per hour.
What you'll do#
- Assist in creating and writing draft processes and procedures to ensure compliance with new internal audit standards.
- Help plan and execute audit engagements, including collecting audit evidence and preparing workpapers.
- Support issue tracking, monitor remediation efforts, and follow up on audit findings.
- Participate in risk assessments, control evaluations, and research on regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Perform data analysis to identify trends or anomalies for audit reports and presentations.
- Provide general support to the team, including work on the Optro Analytics project.
- Utilize standard office software and SAP to complete tasks.
- Follow the BWL Safety Manual, attend required training, and wear personal protective equipment during field visits.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited educational institution with a focus on Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
- Enrollment in fall 2027 classes.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to pass a background check and substance screening.

- Location: Lansing, MI.
- Term: May 17, 2027, to August 13, 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- This role involves working in a temperature-controlled office environment with occasional visits to industrial sites or outdoor locations. You may need to lift up to 30 pounds and navigate uneven terrain.
