About the role#
The Government & Community Relations Intern will support public affairs, stakeholder communications, and policy research at the Lansing Board of Water & Light. This summer internship offers hands-on experience working with government officials, nonprofit organizations, and community partners. You will work under the direction of the team to manage departmental projects and daily operations.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain a database of government and community stakeholders.
- Monitor local government meeting agendas and proceedings to provide team updates.
- Conduct research on regional policies and community issues.
- Create and distribute weekly news briefs.
- Manage the departmental SharePoint site.
- Maintain community sponsorship records and impact data.
- Assist with planning and logistics for BWL events and employee volunteer programs.
- Attend external meetings and community events with team members.
- Utilize standard office software and internal systems.
- Follow safety manuals and attend required training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited institution in Communications, Political Science, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
- Enrollment in fall 2027 classes.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to pass a background check, substance screening, and physical.

- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $23.00 per hour.
