About the role#
Nebraska Public Power District is hiring an Accounting Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position is based in Columbus, Nebraska, and reports to the Controller. You will assist with financial, administrative, and clerical tasks to support business unit needs while gaining experience in utility accounting.
What you'll do#
- Provide support for financial reporting and complete account reconciliations.
- Analyze financial and operational data to identify the causes of variances.
- Review financial transactions against supporting documentation.
- Prepare presentations, statistical reports, and schedules for management.
- Research accounting policies and guidance to ensure compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes using S4/HANA.
- Assist with tax, grant, and other report filings.
- Compile annual metrics reviews and conduct benchmarking against peer organizations.
- Document internal processes and user instructions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university.
- Current standing as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.
- A minimum course load of 12 semester units or 8 quarter units.
- A major in accounting, finance, or a related business field.
- Associate Program students must provide proof of a four-year plan.
- Preference is given to accounting majors with junior or senior status.
