About the role#
WSP is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern for our Austin Bridge Team. This is a temporary, part-time position for the Winter 2027 term. You will work on-site in our Austin office and gain hands-on experience by working alongside senior staff on real projects. Please note that this role does not include relocation or housing assistance.
What you'll do#
- Support a variety of engineering tasks to build your technical and professional skills.
- Learn the basic principles of structural engineering.
- Assist with design work using CADD software.
- Help with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
- Support the preparation of final design plans and cost estimates.
- Maintain project documentation.
- Follow company policies, including the Code of Conduct and health and safety guidelines.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a current or incoming graduate student in an accredited Civil Engineering program with a focus on structural engineering.
- A completed BS degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Completion of foundational courses, including Intro to Engineering and an Engineering Drafting course.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to take direction from managers and mentors.
- A track record of workplace safety.
- You must be 18 or older.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or OpenRoad is preferred.
- An EIT license is preferred.
- Prior internship or leadership experience is a plus.
