About the role#
WSP is seeking a full-time Overhead Transmission Line Design Engineering Intern for our Phoenix, Arizona office. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working alongside senior staff on real projects. You will participate in our Developing Professionals Network to build your career connections and receive mentorship. This internship is scheduled for the Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Support various engineering tasks to build your technical and professional skills.
- Learn the basic principles of Civil Engineering.
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
- Help prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
- Collect and maintain project documentation.
- Complete assigned training modules.
- Follow company policies, including the WSP Code of Conduct, and make ethical decisions regarding resources.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited Undergraduate program for Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
- An anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Minimum age of 18 and authorization to work in the United States.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow direction from managers and mentors.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.
- A commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and harassment policies.
- Academic achievement, such as a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Relevant coursework in structural analysis, concrete, steel, soils, foundations, or surveying.
- Familiarity with engineering software like MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, or AUTOCAD.
- Attention to detail and effective time management skills.
- Preference is given to candidates with prior engineering experience or those who have passed the FE/EIT exam.
