About the role#
WSP is seeking a full-time Civil Engineering Intern to join the Northern Virginia Civil Team for the Summer 2027 season. This 12-week program provides hands-on experience working alongside senior staff on actual projects. Interns participate in the Developing Professionals Network to build connections and receive mentorship throughout their time in the Herndon office.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering tasks to develop technical and ethical skills.
- Learn foundational principles of Roadway and Civil Engineering.
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
- Help prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
- Collect and maintain project documentation.
- Complete assigned training modules.
- Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources.
- Perform additional duties as business needs arise.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Undergraduate, Masters, or PhD program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Demonstrated interest in Roadway, Transportation, or Civil Engineering.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to follow direction from mentors and managers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and company health and harassment policies.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Prior internship or campus leadership experience is preferred.

- Compensation: $19 to $30 per hour.
