About the role#
The Winter Nurse Extern Program at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital offers nursing students a paid clinical experience during the winter break. You will work alongside an experienced RN preceptor to gain hands-on practice in a hospital setting. This program includes at least 48 hours of clinical time with shifts that vary based on your preceptor's schedule.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing care and assist patients with personal needs like bathing, dressing, and positioning.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Assist with the preparation and transportation of patients for tests and procedures.
- Perform EKGs and Point-of-Care testing, such as blood glucose checks.
- Stock patient rooms and nursing areas with necessary supplies to maintain par levels.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the nursing team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved Nursing program with at least two completed clinical semesters.
- Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation.
- Must be passing in your accredited nursing program.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- An unofficial transcript and a letter of recommendation from a nursing professor.
- This program is open to senior nursing students graduating in Spring 2027.
