About the role#
The Discovery IT team supports scientific operations by managing data and informatics. As a co-op, you will join the team that builds and supports the SONAR platform. You will work alongside scientists, data managers, and IT professionals in an environment that uses both Agile and Waterfall methodologies. This role provides hands-on experience in a digital scientific setting.
What you'll do#
- Support the creation, management, and usage of scientific data for research.
- Build process maps, document user requirements, and handle application configuration and testing.
- Assist in inventory gathering and other tasks that support platform and IT needs.
- Move legacy data into modern databases and facilitate querying.
- Document lab and technology functions using the Atlassian toolset.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Computer Science, Biology, or Biomedical Sciences.
- Good to strong knowledge of Python for scripting, file manipulation, and building applications.
- Familiarity with database technologies and inserting data into relational systems using Python.
- Familiarity with version control systems like GIT.
- Working knowledge of technologies such as Posit, Copilot, or other LLM based AI systems.
