About the role#
The Art Room is a wellness-focused creative space within Student Health and Wellness. It uses art-making as a tool for stress reduction, well-being, and connection. This internship offers hands-on experience in wellness programming, community engagement, and program development. You will meet weekly with the Art Room Coordinator to set learning goals and build career readiness skills.
What you'll do#
- Support an open studio environment that encourages creativity and student engagement.
- Serve as a welcoming resource for students using the Art Room.
- Design and lead workshops, classes, and creative wellness activities.
- Create art and craft prototypes for scheduled programs and events.
- Assist with maintaining supplies, materials, and the organization of the space.
- Support drop-in art-making hours and special events.
- Help foster an inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment.
- Conduct research related to art, creativity, wellness, and prevention initiatives.
- Support outreach and promotion of Art Room activities.
- Help students navigate and access appropriate supports when needed, following established referral protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current UVA student eligible for Federal Work Study employment.
- Interest in arts, wellness, public health, mental health, education, student affairs, or related fields.
- Experience in arts, design, media, or creative work is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comfort engaging with diverse student populations.
- A responsible, dependable, and organized approach to work.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Ability to carry loads up to 20 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Location & details#
- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Primary shifts occur Monday through Friday between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Students are expected to work 4-10 hours weekly.
- Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
