About the role#
As a Laboratory Student Extern, you will work under the direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Charge Tech, or Section Supervisor. You will gain hands-on experience by performing routine clinical laboratory tests and assisting with patient care. This role is part-time and operates on a rolling basis.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine qualitative and quantitative clinical laboratory tests following established policies and procedures.
- Process and perform testing in laboratory sections where you have completed your clinical rotation.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Analyze test results and relay findings to physicians and other authorized personnel.
- Obtain patient specimens, such as blood, and transport them to the laboratory.
- Review and report lab results.
- Ensure the laboratory remains in compliance with safety, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a NCCLS-accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician program.
- Completion of all pre-clinical, core medical laboratory sciences.
- A current Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
