About the role#
The Library Operations Student Assistant team provides essential support to the daily functions of the library. You will help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and visitors. This role involves a variety of operational, administrative, and facility-related tasks to ensure library services run smoothly.
What you'll do#
- Provide customer service by assisting patrons with directions, wayfinding, and basic facility questions.
- Monitor public areas to keep the environment safe, orderly, and welcoming.
- Set up, reset, and break down rooms, classrooms, and event spaces.
- Support building opening and closing procedures.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and report maintenance, safety, or custodial concerns.
- Manage inventory, stock supplies, and organize storage areas.
- Deliver materials and equipment throughout library facilities.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of workspaces and public areas.
- Support administrative tasks including data entry, filing, and record keeping.
- Assist staff with special projects and departmental initiatives.
- Observe and report unusual activities or safety hazards to library personnel.
- Follow all university and departmental policies and safety guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with library staff, other student employees, and campus partners.
What you'll need#
- Must be a USF student in good standing.
- Enrollment as a full-time student (12 credits for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduate students).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Previous experience in customer service, library, retail, hospitality, facilities, or office support is preferred.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift or carry materials up to 25 pounds.
