IAE Social Media Internship - Fall 2026

About the role#

The University of South Florida Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE) is seeking a Social Media Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role supports SOFWERX, a venue focused on accelerating innovative capabilities for the U.S. Special Operations Command. Interns will work on-site in Tampa, Florida, and will be considered both a USF IAE temporary employee and a SOFWERX student intern.

What you'll do#

• Develop and maintain a social media calendar aligned with the communications plan.
• Create content for social media platforms and monitor, engage, and respond to online activity.
• Assist in coordinating marketing efforts, including direct mail, print ads, and social media outreach.
• Create and format the internal newsletter for weekly digital publication.
• Conduct weekly market research and submit required entries regarding new capabilities, technologies, and organizations.
• Provide clerical and event support, and complete special projects as assigned.

What you'll need#

• Active enrollment as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program at an accredited local university.
• A current GPA of 3.0 or above.
• U.S. citizenship is required due to Department of Defense funding and potential access to Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
• Strong technical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Preferred experience with WordPress, Mail Chimp, social media management tools, and Big Contacts.
• Majors in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or Graphic Design are preferred.
• A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, and confidentiality.

• Compensation: $17.00 per hour.
• Time commitment: 15–20 hours per week.
