About the role#
The Department of Conservation is hiring a Student Assistant to support the Geologic Energy Management Division, also known as CalGEM. You will work with a team of scientists and professionals to collect, analyze, and interpret geospatial data for various projects. This is a part-time, temporary position that operates in a hybrid environment.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with CalGEM GIS staff to research and evaluate supplemental data sources.
- Contribute to data quality control for sensitive receptors and related infrastructure.
- Analyze research questions and apply GIS concepts to provide solutions.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret geospatial data.
- Research alternative sources for data collection.
- Take detailed notes during meetings and manage follow-up tasks.
- Create documentation and assist with general GIS mapping requests.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student at an accredited institution on the university affiliation list.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least six-semester units or nine-quarter units.
- Graduate students must be enrolled in at least four-semester units or six-quarter units.
- Major in Geography, Geology, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience with GIS through university coursework.
- Proficiency with the ESRI suite, including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, or web-based applications.
- Ability to analyze spatial concepts and offer solutions to research questions.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Sacramento, California.
- Work is performed in a hybrid and remote capacity.
- You must reside and perform all work within the state of California.
- Typical hours are Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Students generally work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks.
- Compensation ranges from $16.90 to $19.00 per hour.
