About the role#
The Audits Operations Bureau at the State Controller's Office is hiring two student assistants to support the audit of claims and vouchers. You will verify financial documents for compliance with the California Constitution and other state regulations. This role offers the chance to build professional skills in government accounting, critical thinking, and audit procedures.
What you'll do#
- Review claims to determine if they are approved or denied based on established criteria.
- Analyze and compare claims against regulatory standards.
- Conduct research and gather information to support ongoing audit projects.
- Communicate with internal audit staff and external auditees to coordinate follow-up activities.
- Complete various deliverables and administrative assignments as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 12 semester units for undergraduates or 8 semester units for graduate students.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or Accounting.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Clear communication skills for both internal and external correspondence.
- Familiarity with public administration principles and professional writing.
- Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to manage deadline-driven projects.

- This position is based in Sacramento, California.
- The role follows a hybrid work schedule, with specific hours and days determined by your supervisor.
- Employment is part-time and temporary.
- You must reside and perform all work within the state of California.
