About the role#
The State Controller's Office is hiring a Certified Law Student Assistant for its Legal Office in Sacramento. This role provides advisory and protective services regarding California financial resources. You will support the office with statutory compliance, policy advice, and unclaimed property enforcement.
What you'll do#
- Perform supervised legal research and writing.
- Analyze and edit documents to ensure compliance with administrative and legal authorities.
- Draft meeting notes, discussion outlines, and proposed agendas.
- Represent the office at hearings under legal supervision.
- Synthesize complex legal matters and communicate them verbally.
- Provide attorney briefings on written materials.
- Manage administrative functions for the legal office.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a college student during the regular term.
- Minimum of 12 semester or quarter units for undergraduates, or eight units for graduate students.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
- Initiative and self-motivation.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of public administration principles is preferred.
- Ability to complete deadline-driven project management tasks is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid position based in Sacramento, California.
- Work is part-time and temporary.
- You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
- Schedules are flexible Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM, with the final schedule set by your supervisor.
