About the role#
The Justice Program at the Brennan Center for Justice works to reform the criminal legal system and reduce reliance on mass incarceration. We are looking for law students to join our team in New York for a summer internship. You will work alongside staff on policy advocacy and research initiatives to promote a fair and effective justice system.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and policy analysis.
- Draft legislation at federal, state, and local levels.
- Support administrative and legislative advocacy.
- Contribute to public education and scholarship.
- Perform legal research and writing for amicus briefs and policy reports.
- Draft communications for legislators and posts for our website.
- Assist with public comments to federal agencies.
- Attend coalition meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a law student.
- Excellent skills in legal research, analysis, and writing.
- Initiative, imagination, and versatility.
- A passion for justice program issues.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time internship based in New York, New York.
- The term runs for 10 weeks from June to August 2027.
- The role is paid via a stipend, with specific amounts based on your year of law school.
- Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm EST.
