About the role#
This Pharmacist Intern position at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center provides technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care. You will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to perform tasks allowed by Iowa law. This is a part-time, rotating shift role.
What you'll do#
- Prepare patient drug orders, including IV admixtures like TPNs and chemotherapy.
- Deliver medications to patient rooms and critical care areas.
- Review patient MAR and care plans to manage medication returns and credits.
- Restock automated medication dispensing machines and crash carts.
- Complete assigned unit inspections and check medication expiration dates.
- Provide training and mentoring to new employees.
- Assist pharmacists with clinical information gathering and departmental projects.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a pharmacy school or program.
- Registration as a pharmacy intern with the State of Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or the ability to obtain it within three months of hire.
- Completion of mandatory reporter training within three months of hire.
- Relevant coursework in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Health Administration, or Biology.
