About the role#
The Student Extern for Radiology Imaging Services performs screening, positioning, and imaging of patients under the guidance of the Radiology Team Leader and Radiologist. This role is designed for students currently enrolled in a Radiologic Technologist program to gain clinical experience while working alongside qualified Radiology Technologists.
What you'll do#
- Screen patients for safety prior to exams, including verifying patient identity and clinical history.
- Follow procedure protocols according to radiologist specifications.
- Perform exams using proper technique and views based on the patient's condition.
- Complete patient documentation in accordance with department and hospital policy.
- Maintain cooperative relationships and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Assist with support functions, such as reviewing schedules and maintaining department supplies.
- Demonstrate clinical skills appropriate to the age and developmental needs of the patient.
What you'll need#
- Completion of the first year of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program and current enrollment in the second year.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to pass the ARRT (R) certification within 6 months of completing the Radiologic Technology program.
- Ability to remain in this role for a maximum of 18 months.
