About the role#
Trinity Health Muskegon is hiring Nurse Externs for our Med/Surg unit. This is a part-time, per diem role that offers a $7,500 commitment bonus. You will work alongside experienced nursing professionals to gain clinical experience while completing your final year of school. This position includes a two-year commitment pathway consisting of one year as a Nurse Extern followed by one year as a Registered Nurse with Trinity Health.
What you'll do#
As a Nurse Extern, you will assist with patient care activities and contribute to the clinical team. Your responsibilities include:
- Initiating clinical paths and care plans.
- Documenting care on appropriate records.
- Performing pre-op preparation, including patient teaching and chart reviews.
- Monitoring and maintaining equipment such as feeding pumps, JP drains, heating pads, specialty beds, and suction devices.
- Performing clinical tasks like Foley insertion, patient positioning, NG insertion, dressing changes, trach care, suture or staple removal, tube feedings, vital signs, wound care, and enemas.
What you'll need#
- A High School diploma.
- Current enrollment in the final year of an accredited RN or BSN program.
- Successful completion of the first year of nursing clinicals and skills validation.
- Current BLS certification and maintained nursing knowledge.
- Submission of an updated resume, two letters of recommendation, a one-page personal statement, and official school transcripts.
Location & details#
- Location: Muskegon, Michigan.
- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Minimum of 32 hours per month.
- Orientation: Monday and Tuesday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
