About the role#
The Imaging Student Extern assists the Radiology team in producing diagnostic images while gaining clinical experience. This role requires working under the supervision of an on-duty Radiology Technologist to support patient care and department operations. This is a part-time, contingent position with a rotating shift.
What you'll do#
- Screen patients for safety, including verifying patient identity and clinical history prior to exams.
- Perform imaging procedures according to established protocols and radiologist specifications.
- Complete patient documentation in accordance with department and hospital policies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for patients and staff.
- Support department efficiency by managing supplies, reviewing schedules, and attending required training for systems such as PACS and RadNet.
- Maintain a positive work environment through teamwork, effective communication, and cooperative relationships with colleagues and patients.
- Demonstrate self-directed learning and participate in student education requirements.
What you'll need#
- Completion of the first year of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program and current enrollment in the second year.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to pass the ARRT (R) certification within 6 months of completing the Radiologic Technology program.
- Ability to commit to the role for a maximum of 18 months.
