About the role#
This internship is a part-time, six-month commitment based in Chicago, Illinois. You will work 18 hours per week from January 2027 through June 2027. You will gain experience in news judgment, writing, and reporting by shadowing the team at WLS-TV.
What you'll do#
- Travel with reporters and photojournalists in the field for newsgathering.
- Observe anchors in the studio during live newscasts.
- Practice writing copy and editing video.
- Shadow linear, executive, digital, and special projects producers.
- Attend morning or afternoon editorial meetings.
- Assist with news distribution across digital and social media platforms.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited college or university, with junior or senior standing preferred.
- Coursework or a major in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media, or a related field.
- Previous experience in broadcasting, new media production, or script writing.
- Proficiency with social media.
- Ability to work in both independent and collaborative environments.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess unrestricted work authorization.
- A portfolio is required for this position and must be linked on your resume.

- This role is located in Chicago, Illinois, and requires on-site attendance.
- You must provide your own housing and reliable transportation to and from work.
- You must be able to maintain a consistent, reliable work schedule.
- This is a paid position at $20.00 per hour.
