About the role#
This internship is a foundational development opportunity for emerging AI/ML engineers. You will build scalable solutions for health care challenges, contributing to projects that often evolve into enterprise capabilities or intellectual property. You will gain exposure to the full AI lifecycle while working alongside engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
What you'll do#
- Build and improve reusable machine learning frameworks to accelerate model development and deployment.
- Design scalable data pipelines and feature-engineering solutions using Python, SQL, Spark, and Databricks.
- Develop production-ready APIs, cloud-native services, and intelligent applications.
- Contribute to MLOps automation, containerized deployment, and monitoring practices.
- Work with large health care datasets, including pharmacy and medical claims, member information, and call transcripts, to identify actionable opportunities.
- Partner with stakeholders to translate complex needs into scalable solutions.
- Explore generative AI, agentic AI, retrieval-augmented generation, and real-time prediction.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a master's degree or PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or another quantitative field.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience in machine learning, data engineering, or software engineering via coursework, research, or projects.
- Working knowledge of Python and SQL.
- Ability to explain technical work clearly and collaborate across disciplines.
- A 3.0 GPA or higher with strength in quantitative coursework.
- Proficiency with tools such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, AWS, Apache Spark, FastAPI, or Flask is preferred.
- Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, Hive, or Scala is a plus.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027 (12 weeks, full-time).
- Locations: Austin, TX; Morris Plains, NJ; or St. Louis, MO.
- Modality: Hybrid (three days per week in the office).
- Compensation: $35.00-$43.00 per hour, depending on degree program and year of study.
- Note: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
