About the role#
As a Risk Modeling Intern at HSB, a Munich Re company, you will join the catastrophe and accumulation modeling team. You will assess how major events impact insured equipment, businesses, and portfolios. This role involves a hybrid work schedule based in Hartford, Connecticut, starting part-time in January 2027 and moving to a full-time schedule for 11 weeks during the summer.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and evaluate simulation and stochastic models for specialty insurance products like cyber coverage and equipment breakdown.
- Analyze exposure and loss data to support risk assessments.
- Test model assumptions and validate findings.
- Communicate technical results to both business and technical stakeholders.
- Participate in community outreach and professional development activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an MS or PhD program for Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field. Exceptional undergraduates with significant modeling experience are also encouraged to apply.
- A strong foundation in probability, statistics, and mathematical modeling.
- Experience with simulation design, including Monte Carlo methods, and assessing model uncertainty.
- Proficiency in Python (preferred) or R and working knowledge of SQL.
- Experience with data preparation, statistical analysis, and visualization.
- Coursework or research in stochastic processes, simulation, or risk analysis.
- Ability to explain technical findings to diverse audiences.

- Terms: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Work Modality: Hybrid, with expectations to work on-site in the office.
