About the role#
The Structural Mechanics Subdivision provides expertise in static and dynamic structures, mechanisms, environments, and materials for space applications. As an intern, you will join a high-performance team to collaborate with aerospace companies and laboratories across the country. Your work supports the delivery of next-generation space systems and helps our customers make critical decisions regarding national space capabilities.
What you'll do#
- Develop, organize, and improve software and simulation tools for environments and structural dynamics problems.
- Improve tools and processes used to prepare test or flight sensor data for comparison to analytical predictions and fleet monitoring.
- Apply standard techniques to carry out prescribed scientific and engineering tasks.
- Document and present completed work and recommendations.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Junior class standing by the start of the internship.
- Ability to work full-time on-site for at least 10 weeks, with the ability to return to school full-time afterward.
- Proficiency in Python and Matlab.
- Demonstrated interest in structural mechanics related to rocket and satellite structures.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- U.S. citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Preferred qualifications include a GPA of 3.5 or higher, an active security clearance, and familiarity with Jira.
- Helpful background knowledge includes signal processing, statistics, and applied mathematics, as well as completed coursework in Statics/Dynamics, Vibration, Finite Element Analysis, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra.
- Prior aerospace industry experience is a plus.
