About the role#
The Structural Dynamics Undergraduate Intern will join the Vehicle Systems Division to support the development of tools for evaluating the dynamic and environmental responses of space vehicle components. You will work within a team focused on static and dynamic structures, helping to integrate modern design approaches into current engineering workflows. This position offers exposure to the full lifecycle of space systems, from concept to operational support.
What you'll do#
- Develop, organize, and improve software and simulation tools for structural dynamics and environmental problems.
- Refine processes for preparing test and flight sensor data to support analytical predictions and fleet monitoring.
- Apply standard engineering techniques to complete assigned scientific and technical tasks.
- Document your work and present findings and recommendations to the team.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Availability to work full-time on-site for at least 10 weeks outside of your academic term.
- Ability to return to full-time studies following the internship.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in Python and Matlab.
- Experience with software issue tracking systems like Jira.
- Demonstrated interest in structural mechanics for rockets and satellites.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
- Submission of academic transcripts.
Preferred qualifications include a GPA of 3.5 or higher, an active security clearance, and knowledge of signal processing, statistics, or applied mathematics. Completion of coursework in Statics/Dynamics, Vibration, Finite Element Analysis, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra is also preferred, as is prior experience in the aerospace industry. Junior class standing by the start date is preferred.
