About the role#
The AI and Data Solutions team designs, develops, and integrates internal applications and automations to improve efficiency at Tallgrass. As an intern, you will work alongside developers and data practitioners on structured, supervised assignments. This role is designed for students to learn established patterns, contribute to pilot projects, and grow through mentorship. You will be part of a team that builds tools like chatbots and data-informed systems while adhering to company governance, privacy, and security practices.
What you'll do#
- Join the team for day-to-day operations using established patterns and mentoring.
- Prototype and develop AI-enabled internal tools and automations.
- Support the evaluation, testing, integration, and documentation of AI system workflows.
- Prepare data and perform quality checks to ensure datasets are suitable for AI experiments.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to generate code scaffolding, templates, unit-test stubs, and documentation.
- Learn introductory retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) concepts and apply them to assigned exercises.
- Translate business requests into technical notes, flow diagrams, and implementation checklists.
- Write and run unit or integration tests for assigned components.
- Apply company AI governance guardrails, including data minimization and content moderation.
- Collaborate with teammates and stakeholders to present work in clear, non-technical language.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor's degree program for Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Expected graduation date between December 2026 and May 2028.
- Academic or project experience in programming, data, or introductory AI/ML concepts.
- Foundational familiarity with at least one modern programming language, preferably Python.
- Basic understanding of data concepts such as tables and files.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining a high regard for safety.

- Location: Lakewood, CO.
- Term: Summer 2027 (10 weeks, May-August).
- Modality: On-site and hybrid.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $24.81-$35.15 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
