About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist to gain practical experience. You will perform the duties of a pharmacy technician while developing clinical skills appropriate to your current level of education. This role requires working in a constant state of alertness and maintaining safety standards at all times.
What you'll do#
- Assist pharmacists in preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications for inpatient and outpatient use.
- Maintain electronic records for patient profiles, insurance billing, and prescription status.
- Interact with customers, answer phones, and provide information on drugs, dosages, and contraindications under pharmacist supervision.
- Manage inventory by ordering, stocking shelves, rotating products, and processing recalls.
- Follow established procedures for the documentation, security, and dispensing of controlled substances.
- Identify and flag patients who qualify for Medication Therapy Management (MTM) programs.
- Fill medication carts and dispensing machines, and prepare IV medications using sterile techniques.
What you'll need#
- High School diploma or GED, or 10 years of work experience.
- Ability to perform all standard duties of a pharmacy technician.
- Strong customer service skills for interacting with patients and medical staff.
- Understanding of Medication Therapy Management (MTM) programs.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception to identify medications and distinguish colors.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including frequent lifting, standing, walking, and repetitive hand or arm movements.
