Pharmacy Intern (H)

About the role#

The Pharmacy Intern role at SSM Health DePaul Hospital provides hands-on training for students pursuing a career as a pharmacist. Working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, you will perform pharmacy technician duties, assist with medication preparation and dispensing, and maintain patient records. This position is designed to help you develop professional skills aligned with your current level of education.

What you'll do#

• Provide customer service by greeting patients, assisting with merchandise, and informing them of prescription delays.
• Answer telephones and emails, responding to inquiries that do not require pharmacist intervention.
• Maintain electronic records for patient profiles, insurance information, and prescription status.
• Bill insurance, resolve prescription rejections, and handle cash register procedures.
• Assemble, prepare, and compound medications for inpatient and outpatient use, including IV medications.
• Assist with inventory control, including ordering, stocking, and processing recalls.
• Fill medication carts and dispensing machines.
• Under pharmacist supervision, counsel patients and healthcare staff on drug information, dosage, and contraindications.
• Review patient profiles to ensure accuracy of ordered medications and dosages.

What you'll need#

• High School diploma, GED, or 10 years of work experience.
• Currently enrolled in a Pharmaceutical Sciences program.
• No prior pharmacy experience required.
• Ability to hear alarms and identify malfunctioning machinery.
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances, including color distinction.
• Frequent use of hearing and speech for oral communication.
• Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs, with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
