About the role#
This Nurse Extern role at SSM Health DePaul Hospital provides a transitional experience for students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program. You will work under the supervision of registered nurses and other health care professionals to provide direct patient care. This role is designed for students who have an interest in pursuing a future RN position with the organization.
What you'll do#
- Complete patient care tasks based on skills you have demonstrated competency in during nursing school.
- Monitor patient vital signs, behavior, and physical condition to track their progress.
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, ambulating, feeding, and personal hygiene.
- Perform clinical procedures such as dressing changes, ostomy care, catheter care, and specimen collection.
- Document patient information and communicate updates to your team members.
- Orient new patients to the unit and help prepare them for discharge.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing.
- Completion of at least your first clinical rotation, or you must be within 90 days of your program conferral date.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association.
