About the role#
As a Meteorology Intern, you will support the Network Operations Control team by managing weather risk across our network. You will develop forecasting and communication skills while working in an operational environment. The role involves interacting with frontline staff, department leaders, and stakeholders to support decision-making during weather events.
What you'll do#
- Learn the day-to-day responsibilities of operational meteorologists.
- Write plain-language forecasts and TAFs for various stations.
- Assist with weather case study analyses and information collection for research.
- Gain experience with weather application software.
- Collect and organize data for weather-related content.
- Support communication regarding meteorological initiatives.
- Interact with staff ranging from frontline employees to department vice presidents.
- Present findings to department leadership and deliver daily operational briefings toward the end of your internship.
- Complete assigned research projects.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a 4-year degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- At least 18 years of age with a valid U.S. Social Security Number.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read METAR and TAF reports.
- A strong interest in meteorology and aviation.
- Preferred: At least 3 semesters remaining after the internship ends.
- Preferred: Coursework in synoptic and mesoscale meteorology, forecasting, and public speaking.
- Preferred: Programming experience or coursework.
Location & details#
- Location: Dallas, Texas.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 18 to August 6).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, with a maximum of 8 hours per day during normal business hours.
- Compensation: $21-24 per hour, depending on degree progress.
