Roush is seeking a Powertrain Development Engineering Intern for the fall of 2026. This role supports a team of engineers and technicians within dynamometer and vehicle emissions test laboratories. The position is a full-time, paid internship based in Allen Park, Michigan.
What you'll do#
- Provide support for various customer-based automotive engineering and testing projects.
- Coordinate internal support activities, including dynamometer and emissions testing, machine shop tasks, engine builds, and fabrication.
- Conduct engine dynamometer and vehicle-based emissions testing, including engine setup, data acquisition, and engine teardown analysis.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations for program reviews.
- Review and process dynamometer test cell and engine ECU data.
- Diagnose engine and dynamometer hardware or control issues.
- Manage inventory of engine components and related test hardware.
- Assist with customer correspondence and continuous improvement strategies.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
- Minimum sophomore standing.
- Strong MS Excel experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Hands-on automotive background with a desire to work with engines and controls.
- Ability to work a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
- Willingness to travel or work overtime as requested.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Previous experience with engine dynamometer testing, CAN bus protocols, or automotive competition experience (e.g., Formula SAE/Baja) is a plus.
