Powertrain Development Engineering Internship - Fall 2026

About the role#

Roush is seeking a Powertrain Development Engineering Intern for the fall of 2026. This role supports a team of engineers and technicians within dynamometer and vehicle emissions test laboratories. The position is a full-time, paid internship based in Allen Park, Michigan.

What you'll do#

• Provide support for various customer-based automotive engineering and testing projects.
• Coordinate internal support activities, including dynamometer and emissions testing, machine shop tasks, engine builds, and fabrication.
• Conduct engine dynamometer and vehicle-based emissions testing, including engine setup, data acquisition, and engine teardown analysis.
• Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations for program reviews.
• Review and process dynamometer test cell and engine ECU data.
• Diagnose engine and dynamometer hardware or control issues.
• Manage inventory of engine components and related test hardware.
• Assist with customer correspondence and continuous improvement strategies.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
• Minimum sophomore standing.
• Strong MS Excel experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Hands-on automotive background with a desire to work with engines and controls.
• Ability to work a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
• Willingness to travel or work overtime as requested.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Previous experience with engine dynamometer testing, CAN bus protocols, or automotive competition experience (e.g., Formula SAE/Baja) is a plus.
