About the role#
The Robotics Research Co-op joins the Robotics Centre of Excellence at Rockwell Automation. This team focuses on research in autonomous operations and embodied intelligence. You will work alongside senior researchers to develop Vision-Language-Action models, World Models, and Reinforcement Learning frameworks. This position emphasizes rapid prototyping and moving research concepts toward implementation on the factory floor.
What you'll do#
- Collect, manage, and process physical AI datasets for industrial tasks.
- Train, fine-tune, and evaluate multi-modal robotics models.
- Build sim-to-real pipelines to accelerate policy training.
- Use modern system programming languages and follow software engineering best practices.
- Document research through technical reports, white papers, and publications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelors or advanced degree program, preferably in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.
- Expected graduation date of December 2027 or beyond.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Prior internship or co-op experience in a related field.
- Understanding of machine learning concepts, vision, and robotics applications.
- Experience with robotics hardware, sensors, and manipulation principles.
- Familiarity with PyTorch, LeRobot, HuggingFace, ROS, and ROS2.
- Experience with simulation environments and dataset management.
- Involvement in robotics or technology clubs and projects.
- Ability to design clean, maintainable software systems.

- Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: $20 to $32 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
