About the role#
Apera AI is looking for a Machine Learning Applied Scientist (Co-op) to join our team for an 8-month term from January 2027 to August 2027. You will work on our 4D Vision technology, which allows industrial robots to perform precise, high-speed tasks in manufacturing. This is an on-site role based in our Vancouver office.
What you'll do#
- Prototype and evaluate vision models for object detection, depth estimation, or 6-DoF pose estimation.
- Translate research into production-relevant improvements for model speed, stability, and accuracy.
- Enhance synthetic data generation pipelines to improve model generalization.
- Review and improve the existing machine learning development environment.
- Collaborate with robotics and software engineers to debug model issues and meet deployment requirements.
- Own and deliver a scoped machine learning project, such as testing a new augmentation strategy or developing evaluation tools.
- Support research on strategic vision problems, including handling part occlusion.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks like PyTorch.
- Understanding of computer vision fundamentals, including detection, segmentation, and 3D geometry.
- Familiarity with model training, tuning, and evaluation workflows.
- Interest in robotics or applying machine learning in production-grade software.
- Bonus points for experience with synthetic data generation, Blender, 6-DoF pose estimation, point cloud processing, depth sensing, Linux, Docker, or AWS services.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

- Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 (January to August).
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: CAD $3,600 to $4,500 per month.
- This is a full-time position.
