About the role#
This internship provides practical experience in agronomy and soil science across various field and specialty crops. You will work at the North Central Research Station for 15 weeks during the summer of 2027. This role is designed to build your knowledge for a future career in the agriculture industry by exposing you to marketing, sales, agronomic sciences, and operations.
What you'll do#
- Conduct scientific field research on crop and soil chemistry.
- Collect and analyze data while learning to use tracking and recordkeeping technology.
- Assist with daily plot plans, planting, stand counts, and fertility management.
- Scout fields for weeds, pests, disease, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Learn the importance of soil and tissue testing to make nutrient recommendations.
- Participate in projects and general labor at the research station.
- Create a 30-minute presentation and a poster project to recap your experience at the end of the program.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an agriculture-related field of study.
- Experience in farming or other agricultural areas is preferred.
- A desire to learn about agronomic principles, sales, and marketing.
- Willingness and ability to engage in public speaking.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to stand, sit, lift, squat, stoop, and move up to 50 lbs.
- A positive attitude.
