About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in a production laboratory focused on bovine reproductive technologies. You will gain exposure to IVF and sexed semen operations, build technical laboratory skills, and develop professional experience. This role is designed to prepare you for potential future technician opportunities within the organization.
What you'll do#
- Observe and assist with daily IVF and SSL laboratory procedures.
- Follow laboratory Standard Operating Procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Prepare samples, manage inventory, and handle laboratory documentation.
- Support production tasks such as media preparation and plate making.
- Perform assigned laboratory tasks under supervision, taking on more responsibility over time.
- Conduct quality control checks and record laboratory data.
- Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and efficient.
- Participate in team meetings, workflow planning, and operational discussions.
- Assist with data analysis, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
- Complete a final project or presentation to summarize your experience.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Animal Science, Biology, Reproductive Physiology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods behind a microscope.
- Experience or ability to work under a laminar flow hood.
- Comfort working in cold temperatures, as low as 60 degrees Fahrenheit, for extended periods.
- A basic understanding of biological sciences and laboratory principles.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures consistently.
- Good hand-to-eye coordination.
- Availability for some travel if required.
