About the role#
The Robotics Research Co-op joins our Robotics Centre of Excellence. You will work alongside researchers to bridge the gap between AI theory and practical implementation. Your work focuses on the data infrastructure that powers our perception and world models. This position is based in Waterloo, Ontario, and requires on-site attendance.
What you'll do#
- Build data tooling and pipelines to integrate robot and perception data into our platform.
- Manage model evaluation workflows, including dataset slicing and active learning loops.
- Collect robot and perception datasets using LiDAR, cameras, and other sensors.
- Organize perception datasets for model training and evaluation.
- Write clean, scalable code using modern system programming languages.
- Document research findings and best practices through technical reports, white papers, and publications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor or advanced degree program at an accredited university.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Experience with data processing, organization, and curation.
- Knowledge of Machine Learning concepts, vision, and applied robotics.
- Hands-on experience with robotics hardware and sensors.
- Ability to design clean, maintainable software systems.
- Practical experience with PyTorch, Tensorflow, TensorRT, and HuggingFace.
- Exposure to simulation environments, synthetic data generation, and ROS/ROS2.
- Familiarity with robotics principles like state estimation and 3D processing.
- Experience with foundation models, cloud storage (Azure, AWS), and containerization (Docker, Apptainer).
- Experience with academic research and literature reviews.

- Compensation: $20 - $32 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
- Education: Majors in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
