About the role#
We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the Summer 2027 term. You will contribute to the development of flight control products for business, regional, military, and air-transport platforms. This role involves working on real-time embedded systems that include flight guidance, autothrottle, autopilot, and autoland systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers to solve complex problems in a safety-critical environment.
What you'll do#
- Define and review software requirements for flight control systems, including interface requirements.
- Develop and implement software architecture and design based on parent requirements.
- Implement control algorithms and signal processing for flight control systems.
- Write hand-code and integrate auto-generated code from MATLAB Simulink and Stateflow models.
- Conduct requirements-based testing of flight controls software.
- Support product certification by performing DO-178B/C compliant development.
- Mentor with experienced software engineers to grow your technical skills.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Actively enrolled through the completion of the internship session.
- Minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship.
- Experience developing in C++ or C.
- Familiarity with object-oriented design.
- Working knowledge of data structures.
- Experience with agile methodologies, model-based development in Matlab/Simulink, and team collaboration.
- Experience or interest in avionics systems.
- Ability to communicate technical information to management, customers, and team members.
- U.S. citizenship is required to access necessary systems.
