About the role#
Rugged Robotics builds automation for the construction industry. As a Robotic Software Intern, you will work directly on our hardware platforms to improve their speed, precision, and reliability. You will spend your time in our labs and on customer jobsites, moving from prototype to real-world application.
What you'll do#
- Prototype and test software on physical hardware.
- Modify and refine system kinematics, algorithms, and software features.
- Build proof-of-concept algorithms to solve specific engineering challenges.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and diagnose issues found during deployments.
- Run simulations and experiments to make objective engineering decisions.
What you'll need#
- Experience with software and electromechanical systems from internships, projects, or research.
- Knowledge of robotics and control areas like kinematics, sensor fusion, path planning, perception, calibration, and firmware.
- Proficiency in ROS, Python, and C++.
- Familiarity with revision control and CI/CM practices.
- Experience deploying code to physical hardware and debugging mechanical, electrical, or software issues.
- A willingness to learn new techniques and work in an environment where you wear many hats.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship located on-site in Houston, Texas.
- Available terms include Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
