About the role#
Radiant is looking for a Nuclear Engineer Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on the Kaleidos microreactor project, helping us refine performance models and safety analysis. This is a full-time, on-site role based at our headquarters in El Segundo, California.
What you'll do#
- Assist with design and analysis tasks covering shielding, neutronics, thermal, and fuel studies.
- Support coupled neutronics and thermal calculations to refine system performance models.
- Develop lower order shielding analysis models for rapid design solutions.
- Execute uncertainty propagation methodology for the Kaleidos Demonstration Unit.
- Perform criticality safety analysis for the Kaleidos production plant.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute technical input throughout projects.
- Document your methods, results, and findings in technical reports and presentations.
- Present a final project review to our engineering team and leadership at the end of the term.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong academic foundation in reactor physics, thermal-hydraulics, or radiation shielding.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, C++, or C#.
- Hands-on experience with nuclear system design or analysis through labs, research, or coursework.
- Familiarity with simulation codes like OpenMC, Serpent, MCNP, MOOSE, BISON, RELAP, CFD, Pronghorn, or GRIFFIN.
- Exposure to software development practices including version control, testing, or documentation.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Interest in our mission to deploy portable nuclear microreactors for clean energy in remote locations.

- This internship is located on-site in El Segundo, California.
- The position is paid and full-time.
