About the role#
The Invertebrate Pest Biology intern will support laboratory and greenhouse studies focused on developing biopesticides for agricultural pest control. This role involves assisting with early-stage product screening, quality control testing, and the maintenance of various insect colonies. You will work directly with scientists to evaluate insecticidal candidates and contribute to overall research operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist scientists with the setup and execution of laboratory and greenhouse experiments.
- Maintain insect colonies by preparing diets, collecting and processing eggs, and monitoring cages.
- Prepare materials for in vitro and in planta bioassays.
- Record experimental data and results in an organized manner.
- Maintain cleanliness in laboratory and greenhouse areas, including glassware, growing containers, and workspaces.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Biomedical Sciences (emphasis in entomology, nematology, or plant pathology preferred).
- Hands-on experience working in a laboratory or greenhouse setting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage time effectively, organize tasks, and handle multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs independently or with assistance.
