About the role#
The Invertebrate Pest Biology intern will support laboratory and greenhouse studies focused on developing novel biopesticides to control agricultural pests. This role involves assisting with early-stage product screening, quality control testing, and the maintenance of insect colonies.
What you'll do#
- Assist scientists with the setup and execution of experiments.
- Maintain insect species by preparing diets, collecting and processing eggs, and monitoring cages.
- Prepare materials for in vitro and in planta bioassays to evaluate insecticidal candidates.
- Record experimental data and results in an organized manner.
- Maintain a clean laboratory and greenhouse environment, including glassware and growing containers.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Biomedical Sciences (emphasis in entomology, nematology, or plant pathology preferred).
- Hands-on experience working in a laboratory or greenhouse.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage time effectively, organize tasks, and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Commitment to working 10 to 15 hours per week during the school year.
