About the role#
ProFarm is seeking an intern to join the Plant Health and Microbial Sciences department. In this role, you will support scientists in the development of microbial biocontrol agents and plant growth promotion solutions. You will gain hands-on experience across microbiology, molecular biology, plant pathology, and plant biology.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the setup and takedown of bioassays in greenhouse, growth chamber, and lab settings.
- Support seedling and plant growth stage experiments and collect data using phenotyping methods.
- Prepare experimental materials, including culture media, buffers, and seeds.
- Culture and isolate microorganisms using various media types.
- Perform DNA and RNA extractions from microbial and plant samples.
- Use laboratory instrumentation such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, Qubit, and NanoDrop.
- Record and organize experimental data and results accurately.
- Maintain a clean and organized lab and greenhouse environment.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Agriculture, or Environmental/Biomedical Engineering. A focus in microbiology, plant pathology, or plant biology is preferred.
- Comfort working in greenhouse and lab settings that involve soil and plant material.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
