About the role#
Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Software Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position is based in Sterling, Virginia, and requires full-time, on-site presence. You will join our Strategic Defense Solutions team to help design and develop integrated simulation and training software. This is a paid internship.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, development, and testing of software applications and tools for network systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify requirements and implement solutions.
- Contribute to the development of secure and scalable network communication protocols.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software issues.
- Document software functionality, including writing technical reports and user manuals.
- Stay updated on emerging network technologies and industry practices.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's or advanced degree program in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, or Physics.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the start of the internship.
- Experience in application development within IaaS or PaaS environments.
- Familiarity with Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.
- Experience refactoring legacy systems for cloud environments.
