About the role#
The Materials & Processes Engineering and Mechanical Disciplines department at Pratt & Whitney is seeking engineering students for a summer internship. This program provides hands-on training and the opportunity to work on projects related to commercial and military jet engine applications. Interns will contribute to technical development while gaining insight into the aerospace industry.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate engine components and support materials or chemical process development.
- Perform mechanical testing, structural analysis, metallurgical or chemical analysis, and inspection processes.
- Develop structural software tools and analyze coating properties.
- Document and analyze experimental data, draw conclusions, and prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Participate in areas such as fatigue and fracture mechanics modeling, non-destructive evaluation, and materials property modeling.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree program in Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the start of the internship.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Experience with materials characterization and test methods, such as mechanical testing, thermal analysis, spectroscopy, or microscopy.
- A strong interest in building a technical career in applied materials development and characterization.
- U.S. citizenship is required for this role.
