About the role#
Hermeus is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join the Fluids Team in Los Angeles. This role focuses on the design and integration of hydraulic systems, fuel systems, and supporting structural components for hypersonic aircraft. You will own hardware development from the initial concept phase through to design, fabrication, integration, and final testing.
What you'll do#
- Execute structural design tasks for vehicle subsystems, including hydraulics, fuel systems, propulsion, and avionics.
- Conduct structural and thermal analyses using both hand calculations and FEA.
- Lead trade studies across mechanical, fluid, and avionics subsystems, focusing on mass efficiency, cost, and performance.
- Coordinate with manufacturing, supply chain, and test teams to ensure designs are practical and aligned with program objectives.
- Present technical content during internal reviews and represent the team in cross-functional and supplier/customer design reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D. program in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal Fluids, Structural, or a related engineering field.
- Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 to meet U.S. export control requirements.
