About the role#
Hermeus is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join the Fluids Team in Los Angeles. This role focuses on the design and integration of hydraulic systems, fuel systems, and supporting structural components for hypersonic aircraft. You will work on hardware development throughout the entire lifecycle, from initial concept to fabrication, integration, and testing.
What you'll do#
- Create structural designs to support vehicle subsystems including hydraulics, fuel systems, propulsion, and avionics.
- Conduct structural and thermal analyses using hand calculations and FEA.
- Lead trade studies across mechanical, fluid, and avionics subsystems, focusing on mass efficiency, cost, and performance.
- Work with manufacturing, supply chain, and test teams to ensure designs are practical and producible.
- Present technical content during internal reviews and represent the team in cross-functional design reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D. program in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal Fluids, Structural, or a related engineering field.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- A strong understanding of engineering first principles.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must meet U.S. export control requirements.
