About the role#
IMEG is seeking a Fire Protection Engineering Intern for a 10-12 week summer program in 2027. This full-time, hybrid position is based in New York, NY. You will work alongside experienced engineers and consultants on active projects across hospitality, mixed-use, and commercial markets. The role offers hands-on experience in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of fire protection systems within a team that coordinates on complex aviation and urban interior projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist with fire protection system design in accordance with code and company standards.
- Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources.
- Coordinate design and scheduling with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and other disciplines.
- Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and document permanent record files.
- Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project progress.
- Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
- Prepare and issue addendum information.
- Conduct periodic job site observations.
What you'll need#
- Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Skill in AutoCAD or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
- A strong interest in design consulting.
- Ability to communicate clearly with individuals and groups.
