About the role#
The System Protection Engineer Intern will support the safe and reliable operation of transmission and distribution systems. This entry-level position provides training in the fundamentals of utility protection engineering, including protection and control systems, equipment evaluation, and standards development. You will work under the technical direction of experienced engineers to gain hands-on experience in a regulated utility environment.
What you'll do#
- Support transmission and distribution protection engineering projects and maintenance and operations activities.
- Assist with protection design requirements, relay settings documentation, and the development of testing procedures.
- Support the review and analysis of system disturbances, relay operations, and operating events.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation, reports, and engineering records.
- Support equipment evaluation, approval processes, and the development of protection standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, field personnel, and other stakeholders to support protection engineering activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing your education and returning to school following the internship.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow established engineering processes.
- Interest in power systems and electric utility engineering, with relevant coursework preferred.
